Things to do in Oban outside Oban lesbian Weekend
Trip to the Isle of Kerrera
- Kerrera is just a 5 minute ferry ride away. Walk 30-40 mins to the Gallanach ferrry terminal or drive and park near the sailing club. The parking at the ferry is prioritised for island locals.
- Go for a swim or hike a steep 5-10 minutes to the farm shop, where you will be rewarded with world class views, icecream from Kerrera cows, eggs and more.
- Gylen Castle is an hour hike each way, don't forget to allow good time for the last few ferries.
Trip to Tobermory on the isle of Mull
- Tobermory is beautiful but around 4.5 hours round trip of boat and buses, so we really recommend you don't go on the Saturday of OLW, as you'd be too exhausted or miss our ceilidh.
- Tobermory would make a great day trip after OLW.
- Check out the beautifully coloured houses, the distillery, their lively pubs or hikes.
Scenic Walks around Oban
- Many will go to Mccaigs tower during Oban Lesbian Weekend. Other scenic walks include Battle ship hill or the short but steep walk to Pulpit hill's viewpoint (just ask google maps)
- Dunollie Castle is also worth a visit. It's around a 15 minute walk from our main venue and they have a tea room. You can book access into the castle area.
Trip to Easdale Island
- You'll need a car for the beautiful journey over the atlantic bridge to Easdale island.
- Stop at the Tigh na Truish pub for lunch.
- Catch the tiny ferry to Easdale, there are stones with gold in them, check out the quarries and see why the world stone skimming competitions are in Easdale.
Other activities round Oban
- We have many activities recommended on our optional extras page.
- Achnalarich riding centre - go pony trekking over our beautiful hills.
- Sea Kayak Oban - book a half day or day out adventure tour
- Puffin Divers - Try scuba diving in world famous, clear waters around Oban or get a paddle boarding lesson.

WHAT LAST YEAR'S ATTENDEES SAID
-
“I've been to events in London and other places for years but I've never been anywhere that had as good an atmosphere or was as friendly as Oban Lesbian Weekend”. MS. London
- I was apprehensive before coming as I’m autistic (albeit high functioning) and find all the social stuff hard going at times and making new friends can always be difficult but I was so pleasantly surprised as everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The crew all did a wonderful job and I would just like to say thank you to Maz for creating this event. It was a fantastic weekend and one I will remember forever and look forward to seeing everyone next year!
-
“As someone with a disability, I was a bit anxious. Thank you for making accessibility information readily available and having adaptations that suited me when it came to the walks. I was also nervous as I'm not great as socialising but everyone was so kind, friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be coming next year”. AL. Aberdeen
-
“Scotland now has a lesbian community! I made so many friends that I'm staying in touch with. I'll definitely be back next year”. AB. Far North Scotland.
-
“I loved Oban so much I stayed on. I decided to come for the week as I came from England. The crew were great at making sure we all mingled. I was a bit worried as I came by myself but by the end of the first meal, I had friends”. JB, Buckinghamshire.
-
“I never thought I'd be referring to Oban as the new LGBTQ capital of Scotland but it was wall to wall lesbians! Lots of friendly women and very inclusive as I don't identify as a lesbian myself but I felt that all sexualities were made welcome”. HS, Glasgow
-
“I liked it that we could all meet up at night but during the day, we split into much smaller groups for lunch and walks. I'm not always good in big crowds, so this felt like a nice balance”. KC, Brighton.
